Here are some bright ideas ... about lighting

Don't stay in the dark -Checkout these easy ways to lighten up at home

One of the easiest and simplest ways to reduce the risk of falls in and around your home is to improve your lighting.  Having the right lighting, in the right place, at the right time is the right thing to do.  Get started with these easy changes today.

Don't get caught in the dark, feeling your way to the light switch near the stairs, and never walk up or down the stairs in the dark.  Nightlights that plug into a nearby outlet and automatically turn on at dusk, offer a quick and easy way to find the switch.   Here is a simple one that will save the day ... and night:

A hallway with a door, stairs on the left, and a light fixture on the right wall.

OK raise your hand if you don't get up to go to the bathroom during the night - just as I thought.   The bathroom nearest your bedroom is the one place where a motion activated light switch makes sense.  Get in and out quickly, never have to go back to turn the light off and make sure you keep you hands on walkers and grab bars instead of the light switch.  Here is a simple one to install:

White wall switch with motion sensor.
White LED lightbulb with a silver base, laying on a solid yellow background.

One step you can take today is to make sure all of your existing light fixtures and lamps have working bright light bulbs.  Switching to LED bulbs will extend the time between replacing bulbs and save you a little bit of money on your electric bill too.  Here is a basic option that should work in any home:

Three light bulbs: LED, CFL, and incandescent with hand holding LED bulb against black background.

I use these Kasa smart light bulbs outside my front door, back door and garage door.  Kasa light bulbs are so easy to install and don't require any other special equipment.  Just twist them in place, download the mobile app to your smart phone and you can easily set your outside lights to a timer in minutes.  These are so much better than wondering what wild animal, or wild neighbor, just passed by your motion activated outside light.  Check the full Kasa collection here:
